Hadith Bukhari, زينوا أصواتكم بالقرآن means beautify your voices with the Qur’an. This means that the Qur’an should be recited beautifully. Word تجويد also means beautification. According to Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, التجويد هو تحسين الحروف ومعرفة الوقوف , which means that Tajweed is the beautification of the letters and the knowledge of correct stops (for breathing during recitation). What would be better than spending time in learning to beautify the most beloved book to Allah, the Exalted!
There are عشرة قرآت (ten reciting styles) that are linked back to the Prophet Muhammad, صلى الله عليه وسلم . Seven of them are famous. One of them is called قراأت حفص عن عاصم . Ummsalman teaches this recitation style on wiziq.com to women on Tuesdays at 9.00 pm EST and to men on Thursdays at 8.30 pm EST. For online classes register here.
There are also on-site classes, to register for on-site classes click
To listen and practise the correct recitation, the suggestion would be that you choose a qari known for his close to perfect recitation, turn his reciation on, open the Qur’an and the surah the qari is reciting, listen to him once and then recite along with him nine times. Practise the same verses for seven days before moving on to the next lesson. Continue with this practise. It is always advisable to recite to a teacher to get evaluated. So do find a teacher, either online or on-site and get evaluated after practising with the qari. There are many beautiful reciters like as-Sudais, al-Huzaifi, al-Ghamidi, al-Basfar and others. But some well known reciters for learning are:
“Kaabatullah”, the first House for worship, also known as Masjid-al-Haraam (the Sacred Grand Mosque), built by Abraham and his son Ishmael in Makkah at the command of Allah, situated in the Arabian Peninsula, presently known as Saudi Arabia . It is discovered recently that it is the center of the earth. According to the statistics, during the month of Ramadhan (fasting month in Islam) and Hajj (pilgrimage), over two million pilgrims offer their prayers at one time (in Islam, prayers are offered five times a day).
